About - Expertise
I earned an M.S. degree in Counseling from California State University, Hayward. I received my B.A. in Political Economy from The Johns Hopkins University. In a previous career, I was a project manager in the commercial office furnishings industry. Working in the corporate world gave me a very real understanding of the stresses and challenges faced by workers and professionals in today's business environment. My traineeship at Circle of Care in Oakland, CA, focused on grief, loss, and long-term illness. I am also on the clinical staff at Family Paths, Inc. in Hayward, CA, providing treatment for a broad variety of presenting issues. I respect the values and beliefs of all people, and have successfully worked with clients from diverse spiritual, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Learning does not stop with formal education. I am continually developing the knowledge and understanding required to meet the needs of clients from diverse backgrounds and histories, as they cope with today's world. In addition to regularly attending trainings on mental health topics, I have completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® training program. This training encompassed over 230 hours of coursework, practice, and case consultation. I continue to attend supplementary trainings designed to deepen my understanding of core Somatic Experiencing® principles and to improve my work with clients. I have also completed the "Fundamentals of Advanced Ericksonian Hypnotherapy" training with Eric Greenleaf, PhD.
Who I am as a person will be reflected in my style of helping others. I am a parent. I practice yoga in order to develop mindfulness and balance the stresses of everyday life. Walking and hiking keep me oriented to the natural beauty that surrounds us. I believe that creativity and self-expression are important areas for my clients to explore, and I practice what I preach. My emphasis on self-care and physiological self-regulation supports my efforts to encourage the same in my clients.
